Conquer the Water
Head to “school” (surf school, that is) and learn to paddle out, pop up and perfect your surfing stance. All ages and skill levels can pick up tips and tricks with private or group instruction from Odysea Surf School. Lessons are also available from Tony Silvagni Surf School, where you may even be instructed by professional surfer and Olympic gold medalist Tony Silvagni himself. Both surf schools also offer SUP group and private classes.
On a dive charter with Carolina Beach Scuba, hunt for Megalodon teeth on a fossil ledge or explore historic shipwrecks just miles offshore. The full-service dive shop also offers gear rentals and training for all skill levels, while Second Sport Charters offers private dive trips upon request.
Embark on a fun-filled boating experience with Sea Legs Pedal Pub, which also provides a great leg workout. While the skilled captain steers, you and fellow boaters propel the vessel forward by pedaling through the scenic waters.
Get Fit on Dry Land
Start your day with a walk, jog or bike ride on the 1.2-mile Island Greenway. This wide, paved path safely takes pedestrians and bikers through town to parks and scenic spots. Challenge yourself to a longer ride by following this tour map for a self-led historic bicycle tour. As you cruise through Carolina Beach and nearby Kure Beach, stop and snap photos at historical landmarks and other highlights. Bike rentals are available from Pleasure Island Rentals, iRide Electric Bike Rentals CB, Tony Silvagni Surf School and other local outfitters.
Carolina Beach State Park offers nearly 9 miles of trails that are perfect for hikers and trail runners. The park’s trails cross an array of distinct habitats filled with wildlife – and range from the short, easy Flytrap Trail to the 3-mile Sugarloaf Trail, which earned a spot on Men's Journal's "15 Best Running Trails in America” list. Pick up a trail map at the park’s Visitor Center or marina. Carolina Beach also hosts several races throughout the year, including the Steve Haydu St. Patrick's Lo Tide Run 5K Walk/Run and 10K and the Father's Day Fun Run 5K(ish).
Enjoy a round of friendly competition at Trinity Disc Golf Course behind Good Hops, Carolina Beach’s family-owned, small-batch brewery. Playing a game on the PDGA-certified 9-hole course is sure to make one of Good Hops’ beers even more enjoyable.
