Located nearby on the island, Kure Beach offers boundless ways to recharge in nature’s playground and tap into a sense of childlike wonder. Cast a line from the 711-foot Kure Beach Fishing Pier, one of the oldest on the East Coast. At Fort Fisher State Recreation Area, discover 6 miles of protected shoreline and a trail that winds through the wildlife-rich salt marsh. Step back in time at Fort Fisher State Historic Site, where visitors can explore the site of the Civil War’s largest land-sea battle.
