Nearby Fort Fisher was the site of the largest land-sea battle of the Civil War. Explore its long history at Fort Fisher State Historic Site, where 10 percent of the fort still stands today, along with a variety of indoor and outdoor exhibits detailing the fort’s history. Leave time to stop by Battle Acre Monument to Civil War Soldiers. You’ll find a separate walking trail and an oceanfront gazebo located oceanfront, just across the road from the Visitors Center. If you’re in town in January, be sure to check out The Battle of Fort Fisher's anniversary event commemorating the infamous battle.
WINTER ECO-ADVENTURE
