It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas on the newly renovated Carolina Beach Boardwalk, the site for this year’s Christmas By The Sea festivities.
If you haven’t been to the Carolina Beach Boardwalk this year, the Town of Carolina Beach and a group of local citizens from the Boardwalk Makeover Group have collaborated to create a new look to the oceanfront at Carolina Beach. Federal Point History Center Manager Rebecca Taylor described the renovations: “Twice as wide as before, with 10 foot wide handicap accessible public beach accesses the new structure includes seating areas, swings, benches, covered gazebos and sail shades. Also new is a beach-side stage/viewing area to feature a wide variety of performances. Landscape coves provide space for historical and environmental education kiosks, shades seating, and picnic facilities.”
On Friday, November 27, hundreds of Carolina Beach visitors and residents gathered to cheer when the town’s Mayor and council members lit up the Boardwalk to officially kick off the holiday season. The delighted crowd also enjoyed visiting with Santa and Mrs. Claus, sipping hot cocoa, creating ornaments and roasting marshmallows over a fire pit.
If you missed the light-up ceremony, there’s still plenty of time to enjoy Christmas By The Sea festivities. The Carolina Beach Boardwalk area will be decorated and lit up each and every night through December 31. And special family-friendly holiday events will be held from 6:30pm until 8:30pm on the nights of December 5, 12 and 19, featuring:
* Santa visits and hot chocolate at the Welcome Center
* Fire Pit with storytelling
* Arts & Crafts Area with ornament-making activities for kids
* Live Nativity
* Caroling
* Holiday movies and puppet shows
