If you’re searching for a laid-back getaway but don’t want to leave Fido at home, then Carolina Beach has you covered. From classic beach fun to dog-friendly dining, find good times alongside your four-legged friend in our colorful town.
Sandy Paws
From October through March, leashed dogs are allowed on the beach strand at any time of day. During the peak summer season, April through September, leashed dogs are allowed on the beach before 9 a.m. and after 5 p.m.
Pack up the tennis balls and sunscreen and enjoy the unspoiled stretch of beach with your pup at Freeman Park Recreation Area, where leashed dogs are welcome year round. If you visit Carolina Beach October through March, you can take your four-legged friends to run off-leash at the recreation area for more fun in the sun and sand.
Four-Legged Adventures
Explore Carolina Beach State Park, a 761-acre, dog-friendly park filled with scenic trails. Weave through the park’s 8.5 miles of hiking space across nine unique paths for an afternoon adventure – just be sure to use the leash. Beyond the park, stroll along the scenic Island Greenway, a safe, convenient multi-use paved path perfect for leashed pups. When it’s time to let loose, head to Mike Chappell Park's fenced-in, off-leash dog park. Keep your canine hydrated by taking advantage of the animal-friendly water fountains located throughout Carolina Beach.
Annual Fun
Join pets, their people and pet-friendly businesses each fall at the annual Pets in the Park celebration. Be sure to grab a front row seat to the costume and trick contests! All well-socialized pets are invited to join the celebration held at Carolina Beach Lake Park.
More than Just Treats
Plenty of Carolina Beach restaurants allow pets, so you don’t have to leave Fido behind when you dine out. Grab some grub at Stoked Restaurant and enjoy the views of the waterway on the dog-friendly patio. Lazy Pirate Island Sports Grill provides an outdoor, pet-friendly dining area so your dog can relax comfortably on the back patio while you test your skills at cornhole or giant Jenga. Stop by Nollie’s Taco Joint and order one of their fresh tacos for yourself and a doggie taco for your pup while you dine on their shaded, dog-friendly deck.
Grab a drink with man’s best friend at Good Hops Brewing for delicious beer, dog treats and an on-site disc golf course that guarantees a great time for both owner and pup. Or, bring your pooch with you to Four Hounds Distillery and get a taste of their unique twist on barrel aged rums.
Furry Friends and Slumber
Relax comfortably at one of Carolina Beach’s pet-friendly lodging options such as Carolina Beach Inn, where furry (and even feathered) friends are always welcome. For an additional fee, visitors can also request pet sitting and walking services during their stay! If you are searching for something more spacious and private, check out some of the island’s many pet-friendly vacation rentals. Carolina Retreats and Victory Beach Vacations are just two rental agencies offering properties that treat your pets as part of the family. The Pirates Cove Hotel provides its canine guests with access to a private pet park located at the back of the property.
Let the pet sitter off the hook and forget about the boarding because Carolina Beach invites your furry travel companions to join the free-spirited, fun-loving vacation experience.
