1. Paddle at Carolina Beach State Park

Kayaks and stand-up paddleboards (SUPs) are a great way to explore Carolina Beach State Park – and get a solid arm workout while you’re at it! Paddle NC leads guided eco-tours through historic waterways, once traveled during the American Revolution and Civil War, with chances to spot dolphins, ospreys or even bald eagles. 2. Take a Surf Lesson

Odysea Surf School and Tony Silvagni Surf School offer lessons year‑round for all ages and skill levels. All equipment is provided, including wetsuits and other seasonal gear when needed. Whether it’s your first time standing on a board or you’re looking to fine-tune your technique, the experienced instructors make it easy to feel comfortable in the waves.

3. Get Scuba Certified

Carolina Beach Scuba runs certification courses throughout the year, including specialty training for wreck diving, drift diving, fossil hunting and more. Already certified? Join a charter to local dive sites like the Dredge Wreck or the Inshore Meg Ledge for a new challenge.

4. Hit the Trails

Take a walk or jog along the scenic, 0.67-mile lakeside loop at Carolina Beach Lake Park. In March, the St. Patrick's Lo Tide Run 5K Walk/Run & 10K starts here, offering a festive, USATF-certified race with costumes, awards and a fun after-party.

For more variety, head to Carolina Beach State Park, home to nine trails across 761 acres and 13 different habitats. The Sugarloaf Trail is a 3‑mile favorite, winding through forests and swamps before reaching the historic Sugarloaf Dune. Branch off to connecting trails for marsh overlooks or swamp views, and – if you’re visiting during the spring or summer – walk the Flytrap Trail to catch a glimpse of the island’s native Venus flytraps.

5. Bike at the Beach

Rent a bike from Coastal-EBike Company and cruise the Island Greenway, a paved path that winds through town. For a more rugged experience, head to Carolina Beach State Park. Pleasure Island Rentals offers fat tire bikes and beach cruisers perfect for pedaling across the sand.

6. Get Moving at Mike Chappell Park

This 10-acre park is a versatile spot for staying active, with tennis, pickleball and basketball courts, a soccer field and even a skate park. Stop by for some solo practice, or join a pickup game with friendly locals.

7. Take a Guided Walking Tour

The Signature Food Tour visits several local restaurants while sharing the island’s past, including its Civil War significance and evolution as a coastal destination. 8. Up Your Mini Golf Game

Tee off for some friendly competition at Carolina Beach’s mini golf courses. Putter Pub features quirky obstacles like donuts and a giant gorilla, while Surf's Up Mini Golf adds fountains, splashing holes and a 15‑foot octopus!

9. Play Disc Golf at Good Hops Brewing

Behind Good Hops Brewing, you’ll find the Trinity Disc Golf Course, a nine‑hole layout registered with the Professional Disc Golf Course Association. Grab a disc, play a round, then reward yourself with a local brew.

10. Find Your Flow with Salty Dog Yoga & Surf

Salty Dog Yoga & Surf offers classes for all levels, from gentle flows to HIIT yoga for an extra challenge. Sessions take place in the studio and, seasonally, outdoors. If you’re visiting on March 20, don’t miss the Equinox Flow & Swim, a seaside yoga class celebrating the change of seasons, capped off with an optional ocean plunge.
